The first time I celebrated Galentine’s day was right after my marriage ended. The split happened in early January and I wasn’t going to sit around feeling sorry for myself, so I started planning a girls get together. The upcoming holiday Galentines Day was a perfect opportunity to gather my friends, my support system and show them how much I appreciated them while having some fun.

What is Galentine’s Day?
Galentine's Day was first introduced to the world in 2010 through an episode of "Parks and Recreation." The character Leslie Knope, played by Amy Poehler, coined the term and explained it as a day for "ladies celebrating ladies." Galentine's Day is a day dedicated to celebrating the love and friendship between women. I can certainly get behind that since it is my girl friends that are my greatest support.
It falls on February 13th, the day before Valentine's Day. What I love about Galentine's Day is the focus is on empowering and uplifting your best friends, whether they are single or in a relationship. It's a day to show appreciation for your gal pals and create lasting memories together. Galentine's Day has gained popularity among many women and while not an “official” holiday don’t let that be a reason to stop you from having some fun. Everyday is a great day to celebrate your friends, but Galentine’s Day makes it even more special. So go ahead call up your besties and have some fun.
Galentine's Day Party Ideas
Hosting a Galentine's Day party is a perfect way to celebrate with your girlfriends. I had so much fun when I planned my first party of course I had to plan another. I haven’t yet made this a yearly tradition (not sure why not), but I have some fun ideas for your Galentine’s Day.
Here are a few ideas to make your night-in with your besties unforgettable:
Galentine’s Themed Movie Night:
Create a cozy atmosphere with blankets, and these super cute heart shaped pillows which totally remind me of the Brachs conversation heart candy. Nothing says cozy and creates a fun ambiance better than fairy lights. I bought these for my mantel and they added just the right amount of light. Best part is they come in fun colors including pink and purple so you can get creative. Now for the movies. It wouldn’t be a movie night without some fun movies or your favorite romantic comedies. I watched this movie the other night and loved it. It is a feel good romantic comedy and didn’t disappoint. Don't forget the popcorn and snacks! I love to make air popped popcorn and this machine makes it so easy. For a fun touch I also bought these popcorn bags, for me it’s all about the little extra touches.
Galentine’s Pizza Party:
Everyone loves pizza and with so many options for crust choices, you can even satisfy those that need a gluten free option. A DIY Pizza-Making Party is so fun if you and your friends like to be in the kitchen and don’t mind getting messy. Hello, flour if you are making your own dough. Maybe you want to skip that step and try the gluten free option mentioned above or hit your nearest Trader Joes for their pizza dough in the refrigerator section. Now if you are particularly skilled you can make a heart shaped pizza. I usually just do my best to make something that resembles a circle and use this to bake it. No reason to get anything fancy, just use what you have. Remember this is supposed to be fun. Set out various toppings and let everyone create their own personalized pizzas or get wild and create sections of toppings on the pizza. You can put your toppings in these cute heart shaped ramekins. This is a fun and delicious activity that is sure to be a hit. You can even combine this pizza party idea with the movie night for double the fun with your besties.
Galentine’s Slumber Party:
Do you remember how much fun slumber parties were when you were younger? Now they are even more fun, grown up style. Absolutely love the idea of getting matching PJ’s! These would be so chic and a fun photo op if you are in to that sort of thing. These are super cozy if you live someplace cold. If you are going with the photo op then of course you have to add some fun props. Like this or even giving everyone a pair of these to rock in the photo. Now that everyone is all dolled up in their favorite jammies it’s a perfect time to sip champagne, treat yourself a great classic movie, and play a fun game sure to inspire laughter. Another fun game is using conversation hearts to write a personal ad inserting words where needed. Then each person shares their personal ad. My friends and I did this and it was hilarious.
Galentine’s Gifts
Maybe you and your bestie’s are hundreds of miles apart but you still want to connect to let them know they matter. How about putting together a few thoughtful gifts and sending them off in the mail. You might also want to put together cute goody bags for your in home events. These ideas could be sent to your friends who can’t be with you or handed out at your in home event. Everyone loves smooth lips and these are fun to add to a goody box. You can also add some snacks, something cozy, something practical and something useful. The idea is to make it fun. No right or wrong. You could even go to the 99 cent store and find something fun. It’s the thought that counts. I gave my friends journals because these are so cute and it is something most people would use.

Galentine's Day is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the incredible women in your life. Maybe you choose to host an in home gathering, exchange gifts, or simply spend quality time together, the most important thing is to show your love and appreciation for your gal pals. The friendships that bring you joy, support, and laughter are worth celebrating. So gather your besties and make this Galentine's Day a fun filled excuse to share love, laughter, and lasting memories.
