What color are the wires on a Honeywell zone valve? ›

Honeywell 28mm zone valve operation (V4043H1106)

Five of these wires are the same as 22mm 2-port valve. Green/yellow is Earth, blue is Neutral, brown is Live (or Line) to the motor, grey and orange are connected to the end switch and form part of a separate circuit.

3 Port Valve Operation

Electrically, the valve has 5 wires: Green/Yellow, Earth - connected to the metal body of the valve. Blue, Neutral - internally connected to the neutral side of the motor. White, Live in 1 - Activates the motor inside the valve to select either AB (both) or A (heating)

Thermostat Wiring Tips

If your thermostat controls your heat, you will have a white wire. The Y wire is yellow and connects to your air conditioning compressor. The G wire is green and connects to the fan. Rc and Rh: The red wire(s) are the power source for your thermostat.

Attach the red wire to the R terminal (Call for heating and/or cooling). Attach the green wire to the G terminal (Fan). Attach the white wire to the W terminal (Heat). Attach the yellow wire to the Y terminal (AC).

US AC power circuit wiring color codes

The protective ground is green or green with yellow stripe. The neutral is white, the hot (live or active) single phase wires are black , and red in the case of a second active. Three-phase lines are red, black, and blue.

Red: Hot Wire

You will usually only see a red wire when an outlet is a 240-volt outlet or when a wall switch controls the outlet. In this case, when the switch is "on," the red wire will supply power to the outlet instead of the black wire. Like black electrical wires, red wires are also hot or live wires.

In standard North American wiring, green means ground. Most commonly, if you're talking about DC systems, red is positive and black is negative. In single-phase AC, black is live, white is neutral. In both systems, green means ground.

What is the function of a grey wire on an Ay plan valve? ›

If the system can easily meet your hot water demand (or no demand exists), 230 volts of electricity will travel along the grey wire, to turn off the hot water. Once this happens, the grey wire powers the motor (again with 230 volts) once switch one has moved position.

The extra white wire is another type of live: it acts as a signal or switch input for either the heating or hot water circuit, moves the motor round and turns the boiler or pump on. It's a little extra system safeguard so the boiler of pump don't run unnecessarily when there's nowhere for the water to flow to.

The brown is a switched live to the motor and the grey is a permanent live to the micro-switch which then energises the orange wire to the boiler - which must only operate once the valve has been opened.

The yellow wires power the zone valve. Once the thermostat calls and the valve opens it closes an end switch (connected to the red leads) which calls in the aquastat relay.

Zone valves

The valves have 5 wires - blue neutral, green/yellow earth. Brown is connected to the motor inside, grey and orange are connected to an internal switch. When 230V is connected to the brown wire, the motor opens the valve and the switch inside connects grey and orange together.

The C, or common wire, provides smart thermostats with continual power. It's usually blue, but it may also be black, brown or purple.
